I’m one of the lucky ones. The first business book I ever read was Good to Great by Jim Collins. Like many leaders, this is on the “must read” for people I mentor.
As I’ve pressed into my own life turns, I keep coming back to the “Stockdale Paradox.” Stockdale was the highest ranking a POW at the Hanoi Hilton and his story is amazing. The paradox he embraced was this,
“You must never, ever, ever confuse the need on the need on the one hand for absolute, unwavering, faith that you can prevail despite those constraints with the need on the other hand for the disciple to begin by confronting the brutal fact, whatever they are.”
Learning to embrace this paradox is huge in seeing the redemptive value, of negative life turns.
